Q: How do I add Google Apps integration to my existing Haiku School Domain?  Are there other considerations?

A: Google Apps integration provides single-sign-on to Haiku LMS using your Google Apps account.  Your users will also be able to navigate to Haiku LMS directly from their Google Apps navigation bar.

Before we show you how to add Google Apps integration for your existing Haiku LMS domain there are a couple of important items that you should take into consideration that may affect your timing of rolling out this feature.

Important Considerations

Because of the following considerations you may want to coordinate the upgrade to happen at a natural break in your school year or user schedule.

  • After Haiku LMS is installed on Google Apps, to get Single Sign On working you will still need to associate Haiku LMS users with their Google account (by importing their Google email address, see the import specification for more details).
  • After integration is complete, integrated users will be signing on with their Google accounts, not their previous Haiku LMS accounts.
  • Turning on the integration will replace your current login page with a login page that supports Google functionality.  If you have a custom branded login page then you will want to coordinate with Haiku LMS staff so that we can build you a new branded login page that includes the Google login. We can usually create you a new login page within five business days.

If you have questions any of these please contact our support team.

Adding Google Apps to your existing Haiku LMS

To add Google Apps Integration to an existing Haiku LMS Domain you must first enter your Google Apps domain name in Haiku.  To do this:

  1. Log into your Haiku Domain using an Admin account.
  2. Go to the Applications Tab in the Domain Control and click the Settings button next to Google Apps Integration
  3. Enter your Google Apps Domain name and Save

Once your domain name is entered you can add Haiku to your Google Apps Domain from the Google Apps Marketplace.

  1. Log into your Google Apps Domain using an admin account
  2. Find Haiku in the Google Apps Marketplace.
  3. Click Add It Now
  4. Agree to the Terms
  5. Grant Data Access so that users can access their Google Docs from Haiku
  6. Follow the Setup link and finish any required configuration settings
  7. Click Continue
  8. Click Enable App Now
Now that Google Apps integration is enabled, your login page will change to reflect the new Google capabilities.  For your users to take advantage of this integration you'll need to add their Google Email Address to their user account in Haiku.  If you regularly import accounts you can do this by adding the google email address to the users.csv file and running an import.  You can review the specification for this import under your Manage Domain >> Imports and Exports >> Specification link.  If you users are manually created you can add their Google Apps Email Address by editing the user from the domain control.

Once this is complete, if you haven't already, drop us a note so that we can re-brand your login page so it now supports the new Google features.
