The Question Library is a database that stores all the assessment questions you have ever written inside your haiku LMS classes, as well as any questions you have imported. To utilize the Question Library, you may either create a new assessment, or add questions to an existing assessment. (Remember, an assessment must not be open to students in order to modify it!)

When you click the Add Questions button in a new or existing assessment, the window that pops up, in addition to allowing you to generate New Questions, will allow you to use Existing Questions from assessments throughout all of your classes (not just the one you are currently in) by clicking the Question Library button the right hand side of the window.

Under the Filter By menu to the left, you will see two categories, Class (with your classes listed underneath it) and Question Type. Clicking on a class will bring up all of the questions in the assessments in that class to the right hand side of the windiow. Clicking on a question type will bring up all of the questions from all classes of that certain type. You may select which questions you want by clicking the checkbox to the left of each question. If you want to further filter the questions by specific Assessment, you may. Note: the option to filter by Assessment will appear only after you filter by class or question type.

As soon as you select a filter, a new top menu heading will appear that says Current Filters. Current Filters will show you by which categories you are filtering the questions. If you want to remove any of these filters, click on the X in the box to the right of the filter category you wish to remove.

You may also use the Search feature at the top of the screen to search for questions. The Search will look for any words in the questions themselves, in the answers to the questions, or by the tags you may have given to any imported questions.

When you select a question (or questions) to include, the grayed out Add Selection to Assessment button will become clickable (full color). Click it to complete your selection. A window will pop up asking you 1) whether you would like to include all questions in your selection, or to randomly include a certain number of questions from your selection, and 2) to which section of your assessment you would like to add these questions. Click Insert to insert these questions into your assessment. You will then be returned to your assessment.

Hint: Adding a random number of questions from the selection is a great way to quickly create final exams based on questions you've given your students earlier in the course.

Shortcuts & Tips

Within the Question Library there are a few features that can make re-using existing questions even simpler.

If you wish to copy every question from an existing Assessment (e.g. to copy an Assessment between classes) first use the Filter By options on the left to click the name of the class and Assessment you want to copy. Now, instead of selecting questions one by one click either the Select: this page or all results link.

If you're browsing through several pages of results and have forgotten which questions you've selected or wish to easily filter through the questions you've selected click the x question(s) in selection link on the right-hand side of the window. You will be shown a preview of every question that you've selected. You can also easily remove specific questions from your selection by clicking Remove button to the right of every question.
